Bengaluru traffic: two-wheelers remain allowed on two elevated corridors

Two-wheelers and autorickshaws will continue to use the Airport Road Elevated Corridor after Bengaluru Traffic Police paused a proposed ban, citing long queues and traffic conflicts at diversion points.

The earlier plan diverted goods vehicles, two-wheelers and autorickshaws at approach ramps between Sanjeevininagar Cross and Vidyashilpa Junction. Police said the simultaneous diversions slowed traffic on the elevated corridor and adjoining surface roads. Goods vehicles will remain restricted during notified hours in the first phase.

Police have asked two-wheeler riders to use the leftmost lane, follow lane discipline, avoid unsafe overtaking and stay within the 60 kmph speed limit.

A similar phased plan will apply to the Electronics City Elevated Corridor from September 11. Goods vehicles will face restrictions first, while two-wheelers will remain permitted. Police will review traffic flow, safety conditions, ramp operations and effects on nearby roads before deciding on any later restriction for two-wheelers.

Restrictions on the other flyovers covered by the wider plan take effect from September 4.
