Amity University Noida awarded an honorary DSc to Nobel chemistry laureate Roger D Kornberg and named Stanford biologist Yahli Lorch an honorary professor.
Nobel laureate Roger D Kornberg received an honorary Doctor of Science degree from Amity University in Noida and urged students to approach difficult problems with curiosity.
Kornberg, the Winzer Professor of Medicine at Stanford University School of Medicine’s Department of Structural Biology, won the 2006 Nobel Prize in Chemistry for research on eukaryotic transcription — the process through which cells copy genetic information from DNA into RNA.
“I am deeply honoured by this recognition,” Kornberg said, describing innovation as both discovery and its application for human benefit. “A problem should be solved by curiosity; the solution will automatically follow.”
Ashok K Chauhan, founder president of the Amity Education Group, and Chancellor Atul Chauhan praised Kornberg’s contributions to research and education. Atul Chauhan encouraged students to take on difficult problems and persist with their work.
The university also conferred an honorary professorship on Yahli Lorch, a research professor of structural biology at Stanford.
