Delhi launches Lakshmi Yojana, with 4,190 women issued sanction letters

At Talkatora Stadium, 65 women received sanction letters as Delhi formally launched the Lakshmi Yojana, a monthly assistance scheme offering eligible women ₹2,500.

Chief Minister Rekha Gupta said registrations opened on August 1 and had crossed 9.22 lakh. The government said it has issued sanction letters to 4,190 eligible beneficiaries so far.

Women aged 21 to 60 who qualify for the scheme are due to receive the assistance from September 1. The government has outlined two payment formats: the full amount may be put into a deposit, or ₹1,000 may go to a digital wallet and ₹1,500 to a deposit. Gupta said the accumulated deposit component was intended to help women meet larger expenses.

For Sunita Mahto, 39, from Karawal Nagar, the wallet information is still pending. “I’m not sure what the wallet or app is that we need to be able to use the ₹1,000,” she said.

Shaili Tanwar, 54, a Naraina homemaker, said her registration was completed within a week and that the money could help her buy items she had deferred and contribute at home.

The launch follows sanction-letter plans announced earlier this month, after applicants had reported queues and document hurdles during registration.
