Delhi University drops ₹1 lakh DUSU poll bond; convoys capped at five

DUSU candidates contesting the September 18 election will no longer have to submit a ₹1 lakh security bond, a requirement introduced last year over property defacement.

Delhi University said violations of the campus code can instead lead to disqualification. Aryan Maan, the DUSU president, said individual candidates can spend up to ₹5,000 from their own funds on the election.

Each candidate’s campaign convoy is limited to five vehicles. The university will bar vehicles with tinted windows, missing number plates or suspicious markings. Unauthorised vehicles parked in North or South Campus may be towed or fined under traffic rules. Tractors, JCBs and animals cannot be used for campaigning.

Printed flyers, posters, pamphlets and banners remain prohibited. Candidates may use handmade material, but distributing freebies or setting up branded canopies, umbrellas or booths can invite disciplinary action, including cancellation of candidature.

Nominations close on September 10. Counting is scheduled for September 19, a day after students vote.
