Gurgaon’s Sadar Bazaar sees festive shopping traffic congestion

Festive shopping slowed traffic around Sadar Bazaar, with commuters reporting 40 minutes to an hour to leave the market area. Pataudi Road and Kadipur also saw congestion.

Commuters reported 40 minutes to an hour to leave Gurgaon’s Sadar Bazaar on Friday as festive shopping slowed traffic. Police deployed personnel at key locations.

Commuter Chetan Sharma said he saw an ambulance caught in traffic near Agrasen Chowk while his family was out buying Diwali lights in Gurgaon on Friday.

Sadar Bazaar was among the city’s most congested market areas as Dhanteras and Diwali shopping picked up. Vehicles moved bumper to bumper through its narrow lanes, and commuters said it took between 40 minutes and an hour to exit the area. Pedestrians carrying shopping bags also made their way through cars and two-wheelers occupying much of the road.

Manisha Singh, who was shopping in Sadar Bazaar, said it took her 45 minutes to get her car out of the market. She said an auto-rickshaw would have been a better option for the trip.

The rush extended to markets along Pataudi Road and in Kadipur, where shoppers were buying firecrackers and other festive supplies. Traffic police said they deployed personnel at key locations to regulate movement during the festival period.
