Pickup vans, Tata Ace vehicles and other goods carriers will be barred from the Mumbai–Pune Expressway connecting link from November 1, 2026.
A Maharashtra Traffic Police notification issued by Additional Director General of Police (Traffic) Pravin Salunkhe directs these vehicles to use the original carriageway of the Yashwantrao Chavan Expressway. The restriction will remain in force until further orders.
Light commercial vehicles had previously been permitted on the connecting link. Under the revised rules, private cars, jeeps and other non-transport light motor vehicles may continue to use it at a maximum speed of 100 kmph. Passenger buses and other passenger vehicles may use the link at up to 80 kmph.
Vehicles carrying flammable, explosive or other hazardous materials are also barred from the connecting link and must use the original route. Traffic police cited the tunnel’s design, technical considerations and passenger safety for the change.
