Shefali Shah presents The Audacity of Being at Mumbai LitFest

At an hour-long Mumbai LitFest session on October 25, Shefali Shah read from her memoir and spoke about writing with honesty rather than scandal.

Actor Shefali Shah read from her memoir and discussed personal disclosure with journalist Jane Borges at Mumbai LitFest on October 25.

Shefali Shah read the opening chapter of *The Audacity of Being* at Godrej Literature Live! Mumbai LitFest on October 25, bringing her memoir to the festival stage a month after its September launch.

In an hour-long conversation with journalist Jane Borges, Shah described returning to old memories and the emotions tied to them. Looking at the past, she said, can bring back details beyond the event itself, including “the smells, the colours of the place and what you were feeling”.

The actor also addressed the expectation that celebrity memoirs should reveal scandals. “Some conversations don't just belong to me; they belong to other people,” she said, explaining why she had not included material involving others.

The memoir traces Shah’s journey from a middle-class upbringing to her acting career, beginning with the insecurities and vulnerabilities that shaped her.
