Gurugram trials 35 electric buses on Bhondsi and Pataudi Road routes

GMCBL has begun route trials ahead of a planned launch of regular electric-bus services in the city.

Around 35 electric buses were deployed on trial runs across Gurugram on Tuesday, including routes through Bhondsi and Pataudi Road. GMCBL has received about 45 of the 100 buses expected under the PM-eBus Sewa scheme, while routes and operating arrangements are being finalised.

A driver took an electric bus from Mahavir Chowk to Basai Chowk, Hero Honda Chowk and Bhondsi on Tuesday, covering about 150km as Gurugram began testing its new fleet on city roads.

The Gurugram Metropolitan City Bus Limited (GMCBL) deployed around 35 buses for route trials, including on Bhondsi and Pataudi Road corridors. The operator has received about 45 of the 100 electric buses expected under the PM-eBus Sewa scheme; the vehicles are parked at its Sector 10 depot.

GMCBL CEO Vishwajit Chaudhary said the trials were intended to prepare the service for its inauguration. Officials are still finalising routes, designed to connect newer and developing sectors, along with operational arrangements.

Passengers were beginning to board the buses during the trials, though the driver said many were asking about the new service and would need time to get used to the routes. GMCBL currently runs a fleet of 150 CNG buses.

Chief minister Nayab Singh Saini and Union housing and urban affairs minister Manohar Lal are likely to inaugurate the service, but no date has been announced.
