KPTCL is developing a common system for power purchases, billing, meter data and financial settlements across Karnataka’s electricity network.
KPTCL plans a digital platform to connect power purchases, billing, meter data and settlements across Karnataka’s electricity network.
Karnataka Power Transmission Corporation Limited is building a central digital platform intended to bring the state’s electricity transactions — from power purchases to billing and settlements — into one system.
Called KPTCL-GTD, for Generation, Transmission and Distribution, the platform is meant to connect generation companies, power purchasers, transmission utilities and electricity supply companies. KPTCL managing director V. Ram Prasath Manohar said departments and institutions are being integrated into the system.
Power purchase and sale, billing, energy reconciliation, banking, open access and financial settlement are currently handled separately, often with manual intervention. KPTCL says the platform would automate those workflows and allow real-time viewing and monitoring of transaction, billing and settlement data.
The plan also includes linking the Meter Reading Interface, allowing direct retrieval of meter readings, 15-minute block-level data and interface-point information. KPTCL proposes to add digital signatures and approvals for bills and related documents.
KPTCL has not stated an implementation date for the platform.
