Mumbai: Mabruk refreshes Lebanese menu at Hotel Sahara Star

Chef Jihad El Shami says Mabruk at Hotel Sahara Star has added grills, sharing plates and desserts while retaining vegetarian and Jain options.

Mabruk at Mumbai’s Hotel Sahara Star has added Lebanese grills, mezze, desserts and Jain versions of selected dishes.

Chef Jihad El Shami has added mixed grills, handmade halloumi and baklava with ice cream to the menu at Mabruk, the Lebanese restaurant at Hotel Sahara Star.

The new dishes include Mashewi Mshakal, a mixed grill; Aarayes Bil Lahem Rolls; Handmade Halloumi Meshwi; Makanek; Taj Al Batinjan; and Baklava with Ice Cream. The restaurant has also expanded its sharing platters, including a mixed mezze platter and Kunafa Vermicelli.

El Shami launched Mabruk in 2007 and has led its kitchen for 19 years. He said the menu retains traditional Lebanese recipes while accommodating local preferences. Vegetarian options remain prominent, while Jain versions of falafel, hummus and fattoush are available without onion or garlic.

Selected grilled dishes are carried to tables on a long serving plank, with chefs singing as they serve them. El Shami described the service as a nod to Middle Eastern hospitality and communal dining. Lebanese coffee scented with cardamom remains on the menu.
