A Haryana Roadways bus near Narsinghpur and a truck near Jharsa added to peak-hour congestion stretching up to 4km across Gurugram on Tuesday.
Traffic crawled between DLF Cyber City and Udyog Vihar, on NH-48 near Narsinghpur, and from Leisure Valley Park to Tau Devi Lal Stadium. Gurugram traffic police have deployed extra personnel at major junctions and 30 congestion-prone locations ahead of Diwali on November 8.
A Haryana Roadways bus that broke down near Narsinghpur on Tuesday afternoon backed up NH-48 traffic for nearly 4km, from the Narsinghpur post office to Khandsa Mandi. The bus was later removed, but vehicles continued to queue on the main carriageway and service lane.
A truck breakdown near Jharsa also slowed a nearly 4km stretch between Leisure Valley Park and Tau Devi Lal Stadium. Vehicles moved slowly along a roughly 3km section between DLF Cyber City and Udyog Vihar, including near Belvedere Towers in Sector 24.
Meena Verma, a Sector 49 resident, said a journey that normally takes about 10 minutes took her 30 minutes. Slow traffic was also reported on Old Delhi-Gurugram Road, Old Railway Road, around Sector 37 and Sadar Bazaar, near Hero Honda Chowk, on Southern Peripheral Road and near Ghata T-point.
Police said checks at the Delhi border on non-BS-VI vehicles were not a major cause of Tuesday’s congestion. Ahead of Diwali on November 8, they have deployed extra personnel at key junctions and 30 congestion-prone locations. Rajiv Chowk, Subhash Chowk and Shankar Chowk are being staffed round the clock in three eight-hour shifts, and police said peak-hour delays may continue for another two to three days.
