Delhi schools observe Gandhi Jayanti holiday; more October dates listed

Delhi schools covered by the Directorate of Education’s 2026 holiday circular are closed on Friday, October 2, for Gandhi Jayanti.

The circular applies to government, government-aided and recognised unaided private schools. It lists October 20, a Tuesday, as a gazetted holiday for Dussehra, and Monday, October 26, as a gazetted holiday for Maharishi Valmiki’s Birthday.

The circular also lists restricted-holiday entries for Dussehra (Saptami) on Sunday, October 18; Dussehra (Mahashtami) on Monday, October 19; Dussehra (Mahanavmi) on October 20; and Karaka Chaturthi, or Karva Chouth, on Thursday, October 29.

Restricted holidays do not mean all schools will close. The circular allows employees to avail any two restricted holidays during 2026, and families should check with their individual schools about arrangements on those dates.
