Artur Żurawski brings 40 film-set photographs to Delhi

Forty photographs from Artur Żurawski’s encounters on film sets are on view in Delhi in the Polish cinematographer’s solo exhibition, *I See You*.

Żurawski, whose Hindi-film credits include *Mardaani* and *Sultan*, has included portraits of Rani Mukerji and Aditi Rao Hydari. He said the photographs are not conventional behind-the-scenes images. “The idea is to preserve traces of encounters and relationships that remain invisible once the film is complete,” he said.

The exhibition accompanies a visit during which Żurawski also conducted a workshop at Jamia’s AJK Mass Communication Research Centre. He said his work in India involved finding ways to make heightened commercial stories feel closer to everyday life while respecting the cultural texture of their settings.

Żurawski said he shot the action scenes in *Mardaani* with one camera, while the wrestling sequences in *Sultan* used seven cameras. For *Sultan*, he said, an anamorphic lens was ordered from Germany for the scenes.

He also argued against using generative AI to make entire films, saying cinematographers remain central to how films frame emotion.
