The Bengaluru Division of South Western Railway and State Bank of India have enabled digital penalty collection through point-of-sale terminals at railway premises from October 1.

People penalised by the Railway Protection Force under the Jan Vishwas Act can now use debit cards, credit cards or UPI instead of cash. The arrangement covers enforcement within railway premises and follows thousands of cases registered by the Bengaluru Division since June.

People penalised by the Railway Protection Force (RPF) at railway premises in Bengaluru can now pay through UPI, debit card or credit card instead of cash.

The Bengaluru Division of South Western Railway signed an agreement with State Bank of India on October 1 to deploy point-of-sale terminals for penalties issued under the Jan Vishwas Act. The facility took effect the same day. Railway officials said it is intended to make collections traceable and reduce cash handling.

Since June, the RPF's Bengaluru Division has registered 227 littering cases and collected Rs 1.24 lakh in penalties. It recorded 3,825 trespassing cases, with penalties totalling Rs 19.16 lakh, and 2,619 no-parking cases that drew Rs 13.10 lakh.

Ashutosh Kumar Singh, Divisional Railway Manager, said digital payments could improve operational efficiency, transparency and ease of payment. The terminals will be used for violations within railway premises.
