Environment Minister Pankaja Munde launched Maharashtra’s Maha R-PET plastic-recycling programme at Taj Vivanta in Thane, urging residents to contribute “One Bottle for the Environment”.
The programme is planned for 13 locations across Maharashtra and is intended to encourage public participation in collecting and recycling plastic bottles. The Maharashtra government, Maharashtra Pollution Control Board (MPCB), Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC) and Hindustan Coca-Cola Beverages are involved in the initiative.
Munde said reducing plastic pollution was important for the environment and efforts to address climate change. MLA Madhavi Naik said Thane was hosting the state’s pilot project and urged residents to reduce their use of plastic.
Hindustan Coca-Cola Beverages said it began plastic-management work in Mumbai in February 2026 and that Maha R-PET would extend this work through a structured community programme. MLC Niranjan Davkhare said other corporations would be encouraged to take part in pollution-reduction efforts.
Additional Collector Harischandra Patil said the district administration would support outreach as the programme is introduced at the 13 locations.
