KSR Bengaluru Railway Station hosted a cleanliness drive on October 2, with South Western Railway’s Bengaluru Division asking passengers to sort waste at source and reduce their use of single-use plastic.
Divisional Railway Manager Ashutosh Kumar Singh led floral tributes to Mahatma Gandhi, administered the Swachhata Pledge and appealed to passengers to use designated green, blue, red and black bins for four-stream waste segregation. He also distributed cloth bags to passengers as an alternative to disposable plastic.
The event marked Gandhi Jayanti and Swachh Bharat Diwas, alongside the culmination of the Swachhata Hi Seva 2026 campaign. Swachhata Pakhwada began on October 1 and will continue across the Bengaluru Division until October 15.
Railway Scouts and Guides and Arunodaya Kala Thanda staged awareness performances on cleanliness and waste management. A “Segregation Express”, made from discarded materials collected on station premises, was displayed in the concourse. Safai Mitras were felicitated, while officers and staff also took part in sapling planting and a mass shramdaan at the station.
