Trial traffic movement on Greater Noida West’s ₹92-crore Gaur Chowk underpass begins November 5, allowing vehicles to bypass the junction.
Gaur Chowk’s new 700-metre underpass will open for trial traffic movement on November 5, giving vehicles a route around a busy Greater Noida West junction.
The six-lane underpass runs alongside a 60-metre-wide road, with 350 metres on either side of the junction. It is intended to provide a more direct connection between Greater Noida, Gaur City and the Delhi-Meerut Expressway. Greater Noida Authority will assess traffic movement during the trial before fixing an inauguration date.
Gaur City resident Vivek Tiwari said the junction sees long queues during morning and evening peak hours. “There were heavy traffic jams during peak morning and evening hours,” he said.
The project was sanctioned at ₹92 crore and began in July 2024 with an 18-month completion target. It missed an earlier August 15 opening date; officials cited GRAP restrictions and work stoppages during peak traffic hours. The authority has also built two nearby U-turns, resurfaced the parallel road and restored the Chaar Murti statue, which was removed during construction.
The authority will decide on the formal opening after the November 5 traffic trial.
