Delhi Traffic Police will add personnel at busy markets, railway stations and bus terminals as Diwali shopping and Chhath travel increase road pressure.

Delhi Traffic Police will deploy extra staff at markets, railway stations and bus terminals as Diwali and Chhath traffic builds.

A trip from central Delhi to central Noida took nearly one-and-a-half hours at around 4pm on Wednesday, compared with the usual 40 minutes, as festive shopping and evening traffic slowed key routes.

Delhi Traffic Police has prioritised deployments at major markets and transport hubs ahead of Diwali. Traffic is moving slowly near Sarojini Nagar, South Extension, Lajpat Nagar, Karol Bagh, Kamla Nagar, Chandni Chowk, Sadar Bazar and Rajouri Garden. Delays have also been reported around Kashmere Gate, Hauz Khas, Defence Colony, Mathura Road and ITO, and on the AIIMS-to-Sarai Kale Khan stretch of the Barapullah corridor.

Police will deploy additional personnel to manage vehicles, pedestrians and parking at New Delhi and Old Delhi railway stations, Kashmere Gate ISBT and Anand Vihar. A total of 203 personnel will work in three shifts at Kashmere Gate, Old Delhi railway station and both sides of New Delhi railway station. Old Delhi railway station will have 76 personnel. Another 172 personnel are scheduled at Anand Vihar ISBT and railway station from November 6 to 15.

Police have asked visitors to avoid roadside pick-ups and drop-offs, follow diversions, use designated parking and pedestrian crossings, and check official traffic updates before leaving.
