Utility work ahead of white-topping has left debris, dug-up carriageway edges and dark stretches on a key southeast Bengaluru route.
Commuters say utility work before white-topping on Lower Agaram Road has left debris, narrowed lanes and poorly lit stretches.
Commuters using Lower Agaram Road say white-topping preparations have left mounds of excavated soil, large stones and sewer slabs along the carriageway, narrowing a route linking southeast Bengaluru with the city’s east and centre.
Vishwa Karanth, who regularly uses the road, said work crews had dug up both carriageway edges more than 20 days ago and had not cleared the debris. He said that when a small section was closed about two months ago, a 2-km trip took more than 15 minutes.
Karishma G.H., another commuter, said parts of the stretch have no street lights. BMTC buses also use the road at night, when soil mounds and narrowed lanes are harder to navigate, she said.
Commuters have sought a formal standard operating procedure for civic worksites, including caution boards, timely debris clearance and project deadlines. They say the road is widely used as an alternative to Hosur Road during congestion and Metro construction.
