Khar residents seek action on late-night noise, parking and traffic

Residents from Khar, Bandra and Santacruz met in Khar West on Saturday night to seek action on noise, parking and traffic in residential lanes.

Khar residents raised concerns over late-night noise, blocked entrances and traffic, and sought a meeting with police, BMC and traffic officials.

Residents gathered at New Creation Housing Society on 5th Road in Khar West on Saturday night to raise concerns about late-night music, honking, congested lanes and vehicles blocking entrances to residential buildings.

People from Khar, Bandra and Santacruz met between 9.30pm and 10.30pm, seeking sustained action on disruptions they said affected sleep and access to homes. A planned peaceful walk to an adjoining building on 5th Road did not go ahead after permission was not granted, and residents remained at the society premises.

Senior Police Inspector Santosh Kate of Khar police station attended the meeting. Residents said Kate told them that a coordination group would be created and that officials would pursue a joint meeting involving the BMC and Traffic Department. They said he also told them that action on traffic issues had begun.

Residents said they had at times struggled to reach the police helpline 100 during late-night disturbances, particularly on weekends. They said their demand was not directed at any particular pub, restaurant, business or individual.

“We want businesses to operate, people to enjoy themselves, but residents should also be able to sleep peacefully, access their homes safely and live with dignity,” activist Furkan Shaikh said.

Residents proposed a joint discussion with civic and traffic officials as the next step.
