NHAI deploys 14 anti-smog guns for Delhi-NCR highway dust control

The highways authority has stepped up dust-control work as air quality across much of Delhi-NCR remained poor after Dussehra.

NHAI officials said 14 anti-smog guns, around 60 water sprinklers and tankers, road-sweeping machines and over 900 workers have been deployed on Delhi-NCR highways. Delhi’s AQI was 223 on Thursday; Noida’s was 242 and Greater Noida’s 219.

Fourteen anti-smog guns, around 60 water sprinklers and tankers, and more than 900 workers are now deployed on Delhi-NCR’s national highways and expressways for dust control, NHAI officials said.

The authority has also put 23 mechanical road-sweeping machines and two tractor-mounted brooms into service. Thirteen of those sweeping machines are operating along 157 km of national highway stretches within the NCR.

The push follows poor air quality after Dussehra. Delhi recorded an AQI of 223 on Thursday; Noida was at 242, Greater Noida at 219, Gurugram at 193 and Faridabad at 117.

NHAI member (technical) Alok Deepankar asked field teams to keep equipment and workers fully deployed, run anti-smog guns regularly and sweep roads daily. The authority said it would enforce CAQM dust-control norms, including covering construction material and maintaining dust-free road surfaces, alongside measures required under applicable GRAP stages.

Officials must monitor the work each day and submit geo-tagged photographs. NHAI said it will also address pollution complaints received through the Green Delhi app and social-media platforms.
