Udyog Vihar commuters walk beside traffic on Rao Gajraj Singh Marg

Office and factory workers on the key Udyog Vihar road say missing footpaths, open manholes and poor lighting make the evening walk home unsafe.

Rao Gajraj Singh Marg serves offices, factories and nearby homes in Udyog Vihar, but pedestrians have little continuous space away from traffic. GMDA said it would consider a comprehensive proposal, while MCG said it would assess the streetlights.

Shikha Awasthi, who works in Udyog Vihar-5, says walking along Rao Gajraj Singh Marg often means watching traffic and the ground at the same time. Without continuous footpaths, pedestrians use the road edge beside vehicles moving in both directions.

Open manholes and parked vehicles further narrow that space. Near Defence Canteen, two-way traffic leaves particularly little room for people walking after office and factory shifts. Several stretches are poorly lit after dark.

Awasthi said monsoon waterlogging had made the stretch difficult to cross, forcing her to take an auto to the main road.

GMDA said it would consider a comprehensive proposal after a change in the Metro alignment. It cited a land issue near the defence area and a 66 kV power line as constraints. MCG said it would inspect existing lights and prepare an estimate if new installations are needed.
