Delhi HC asks agencies to meet on Sainik Farm regularisation

Sainik Farm residents could receive clarity on the colony’s status within two months after the Delhi High Court directed four government bodies to meet on its possible regularisation.

A bench led by Chief Justice DK Upadhyaya and Justice Tejas Karia asked the Union housing and urban affairs ministry, the Delhi government, the Delhi Development Authority and the Municipal Corporation of Delhi to place the meeting’s outcome before the court in an affidavit filed by a competent ministry authority. The court was hearing petitions seeking regularisation of the south Delhi colony.

The bench noted that the absence of a decision had left residents unable to carry out even repairs. It said the authorities could survey the area, prepare a plan, consider development charges and identify structures that may need demolition while preserving those that could be retained.

The Centre told the court that it could take a broader decision after the proposed Master Plan Delhi 2047 is approved and published. In an earlier affidavit, it said it would not pursue regularisation of unauthorised colonies categorised as affluent, including Sainik Farm.

The matter is listed for hearing again in November.
