Unidentified man’s body found in Sector 55 drain, Noida

Sanitation workers cleaning a drain outside a residential society in Noida’s Sector 55 found the body of an unidentified man at about 8am on Wednesday, police said.

The workers informed the society’s security guard, who contacted police. Sector 58 station house officer Amit Tomar said the body, which was decomposed, was stuck in silt and debris in a drain more than 10 feet deep. Police suspect it may have been carried through the drain from the Khoda side.

Police estimate that the man may have died about a fortnight before the body was found, though his age and cause of death have yet to be established. The body has been sent for a postmortem examination.

Investigators have asked police stations in Noida and surrounding districts to check missing-person complaints. They will also examine CCTV footage from near the site. Police said they will register a case after receiving the autopsy report.
