Bus breakdowns and overturned vehicles slow Mumbai traffic; flow restored

Breakdowns involving BEST buses and two overturned vehicles slowed traffic at junctions from Sakinaka to Vikhroli on Monday morning before normal movement was restored.

Traffic slowed near Sakinaka Junction, IIT Main Gate, Ghatkopar, MIDC and the Jogeshwari-Vikhroli Link Road after BEST bus breakdowns. A dumper overturned near Magathane Bridge Metro Mall and a tempo flipped at Ghatkopar bridge in Vikhroli, prompting diversions and delays.

A BEST bus breakdown near Pratap Nagar signal on the Jogeshwari-Vikhroli Link Road held up north-bound traffic on Monday morning, one of several disruptions reported across Mumbai.

Other bus breakdowns slowed vehicles at Sakinaka Junction, near IIT Main Gate in Powai, outside Supreme Multispecialty Hospital in Ghatkopar, and near Sai Palace Hotel in MIDC. The affected points included key routes used by commuters moving between the eastern suburbs and the JVLR.

A dumper also overturned on the north-bound side in front of Magathane Bridge Metro Mall. Traffic there was diverted to the service road. In Vikhroli, south-bound vehicles moved slowly at Ghatkopar bridge after a tempo overturned.

Mumbai Traffic Police said traffic movement had subsequently returned to normal at all the locations.
