Delhi has proposed Vayo Anand centres where residents aged 60 and above could play carrom and ludo, watch television, use computers and access reading material, alongside yoga, meditation and social activities.
The Delhi government plans to provide ₹2.4 lakh in assistance to organisations that set up the centres. Each centre would need at least 200 members aged 60 or above.
Centres would have to open for at least five days a week and seven hours a day, within the hours of 7am and 8pm. The Chief Minister’s Office said they would need seating, fans or coolers, adequate ventilation and toilet facilities. Ground-floor locations, or buildings with lifts, would be preferred.
Programmes for women, persons with disabilities and transgender senior citizens would receive priority. Centres would also need to maintain contact with nearby police stations and hospitals for emergencies.
The government has yet to identify the first locations or set an application timeline for organisations.
