Lakhnawali plant starts processing Greater Noida’s daily waste

The Lakhnawali waste-processing plant has started operations with the capacity to handle 800 tonnes of municipal waste a day, which the Greater Noida Authority says is roughly the amount generated daily across Greater Noida’s sectors and villages.

Dadri MLA Tejpal Nagar inaugurated the facility on Tuesday. It will process wet and dry waste: wet waste will be converted into compost, while dry waste will be made into refuse-derived fuel for cement factories.

Until now, the city’s daily untreated waste was taken to the Lakhnawali site. Greater Noida Authority CEO NG Ravi Kumar said the aim was to process fresh waste regularly rather than allow it to accumulate.

Processing of the older, or legacy, waste already at Lakhnawali will continue alongside new daily arrivals. Officials expect the two-track work to prevent fresh heaps from building up while reducing the waste already stored at the site.
