Mumbai reservoir stock at 97.14% after no rain in catchments

Mumbai’s seven drinking-water reservoirs held 1,405,980 ML (million litres) of usable water at 6am on September 27, or 97.14% of their combined capacity of 1,447,363 ML.

Storage was down from 97.37% a day earlier after all seven catchment areas recorded no rainfall in the preceding 24 hours. On the same date in 2025, the reservoirs held 99.13% of capacity.

Bhatsa, the system’s largest reservoir, stood at 98.93%, or 709,355 ML, after its water level fell by 0.05 metres. Vihar remained at 100% capacity. Tulsi held 8,027 ML, or 99.77%, while Middle Vaitarna stood at 98.72% and Tansa at 96.50%.

Upper Vaitarna held 219,332 ML, or 96.60%, with no change in its level. Modak Sagar held 110,506 ML, or 85.71% of capacity, and recorded the largest daily fall of 0.19 metres.

The September 27 reading remains above the 96.29% stock recorded on September 12.
