Mumbai University to host Maharashtra review of campus startup initiatives on October 1

Chandrakant Patil will chair a state-level review of startup and incubation initiatives in Maharashtra’s higher education institutions at Mumbai University on October 1.

The meeting begins at 10 am in the Management Council Hall at Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar Bhavan, on the university’s Vidyanagari campus in Santacruz. It will examine the implementation of the National Innovation and Startup Policy, 2019, including Institutions’ Innovation Councils, startup cells and incubation centres.

Participants will also discuss an innovation fund of at least 1% and how it is being created and used. The Higher and Technical Education Department aims to draw up a state action plan focused on entrepreneurship and employment opportunities for students, while improving ties between academic institutions and industry.

Mumbai University vice-chancellor Ravindra Kulkarni, pro-vice-chancellor Ajay Bhamare, and innovation, research and collaboration directors from the state’s public universities are expected to attend. Shiksha Sanskriti Utthan Nyas representatives Atul Kothari and Om Sharma are also expected to address the gathering.

The meeting is being organised by the Higher and Technical Education Department, the Directorate of Higher Education in Pune, Mumbai University and Shiksha Sanskriti Utthan Nyas.
