Replate lets Bengaluru customers pre-book discounted surprise bags of same-day surplus food for pickup in an outlet’s final hour.
Replate says it connects customers with restaurants and bakeries selling same-day surplus food. Its founders say it has sold about 2,500 bags in Bengaluru and Hyderabad through 50 partner businesses.
At closing time, Bengaluru bakeries and restaurants can list remaining same-day food on Replate as a surprise bag for pickup during the outlet’s final hour.
Customers book and pay through the app, receive a collection code and collect the bag themselves. Replate does not offer delivery. The app does not disclose a bag’s contents in advance, but co-founder Aditya Arya said each bag is intended to be worth roughly three times what the customer pays.
Co-founders Karan Singh Gujral and Arya said they started Replate after noticing bakery counters still stocked at around 9 pm, with unsold items discarded later at night. The service first ran through a WhatsApp group before the founders built separate apps for customers and partner outlets.
The founders said all partner businesses hold valid FSSAI licences, and that their agreement requires food to remain within its safe consumption window. They said bags cannot include food that has been served or returned. Gujral said about 45% of customers who bought a bag returned for another purchase.
