From November 1, Delhi will bar out-of-state petrol and diesel vehicles below BS-VI standards. Electric and CNG vehicles are exempt.
Petrol and diesel vehicles registered outside Delhi that fall below BS-VI emission standards will be barred from entering the capital from November 1 under the city’s winter pollution-control measures.
Electric and CNG vehicles are exempt. Delhi Environment Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa reviewed border-enforcement plans with traffic police and officials from Delhi, Noida, Faridabad, Gurugram, Sonipat and Bahadurgarh.
Officials will also act against vehicles without valid Pollution Under Control certificates, visibly polluting vehicles and petrol and diesel vehicles that exceed permitted age limits under existing rules. Delhi Traffic Police said it is issuing more than 10,000 challans a day on average for traffic and pollution violations.
Trucks not headed for Delhi will be required to use the Eastern and Western Peripheral Expressways. Buses entering Delhi-NCR from elsewhere must be electric, CNG or BS-VI-compliant diesel. Border display boards are planned to alert motorists and interstate operators.
