The Old Rao Tula Ram flyover linking the IGI Airport side to Vasant Vihar reopened on Monday evening after repairs, with trucks and other heavy vehicles kept off the stretch.
Delhi reopened the Old RTR flyover’s airport-to-Vasant Vihar carriageway after repairs. Heavy vehicles remain barred during a PWD audit.
Cars, two-wheelers and other light vehicles can again use Delhi’s Old Rao Tula Ram flyover from the IGI Airport side towards Vasant Vihar after a six-day closure prompted by cracks in the carriageway.
PWD Minister Parvesh Verma inspected the repaired section with senior officials before the flyover reopened on Monday evening. “The necessary repair work has been completed,” he said.
Trucks and other heavy vehicles remain barred while the Public Works Department carries out a structural audit of the flyover, built in 2009. Delhi Traffic Police found cracks at two locations on October 20. A subsequent inspection found deteriorating concrete in the gap-slab section, visible cracks and exposed reinforcement rods.
The closure diverted traffic headed towards the airport, Gurugram and Dwarka onto adjoining service roads and other routes, creating long queues around the corridor. Traffic police are deploying additional personnel to enforce the restriction, while the PWD installs a height barrier to prevent heavy vehicles from entering the flyover.
