Vadodara portal beams completed for Mumbai-Ahmedabad bullet train

All 14 portal beams over operational railway lines on the project’s 8.3-km Vadodara stretch are complete. The next stage involves launching 40-metre composite girders.

All 14 portal beams on the Mumbai-Ahmedabad high-speed rail project’s Vadodara stretch are complete, with composite-girder launching next.

Fourteen portal beams are now in place on the Mumbai-Ahmedabad bullet train project’s 8.3-km Vadodara section, where the elevated corridor crosses five operational railway lines.

Ten beams stand between the proposed Vadodara bullet train station and Vishwamitri railway station towards Surat. Four are between Vadodara and Chhayapuri stations towards Ahmedabad. The alignment crosses the Delhi-Mumbai Rajdhani main line diagonally, requiring structures that maintain clearance for existing rail operations.

Each cast-in-situ beam is about 37 metres long and weighs roughly 1,500 tonnes when complete. Construction above operational tracks required coordination with Indian Railways, including traffic and power blocks where needed.

The next stage involves launching composite girders of about 40 metres across the Rajdhani main line. At the other portal-beam locations, the viaduct is to be built using the span-by-span launching method.
