Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis set a target to complete at least 70 km of metro corridors in 2027 and set a May 31 deadline for the Sewri-Worli link.
At a Mumbai review meeting, Devendra Fadnavis set metro and road targets, sought congestion planning and called for updated utility maps before construction.
Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has asked Mumbai’s infrastructure agencies to complete at least 70 km of metro corridors in 2027.
At a project review in Mumbai, Fadnavis described 2027 as a potential “Metro Year”. He also asked agencies to speed up work on 36 km of metro corridors expected by December 2026, with the target expanded to 50 km.
Fadnavis said at least half of infrastructure work should be mechanised and that agencies should make arrangements for skilled workers.
The Sewri-Worli elevated road connection has a May 31, 2027 deadline and is to open to motorists after completion. Fadnavis said agencies must plan traffic before linking new roads with existing ones to prevent congestion.
For Metro Line 2B, between D.N. Nagar and Chembur, officials were asked to consider a 12-hour Sunday road block if required for girder work near Juhu Circle, while minimising inconvenience to residents. Agencies were also directed to identify a technology-based solution for congestion at Vakola Junction and other bottlenecks on the Western Express Highway.
The MMRDA, BMC and other agencies were asked to update underground-utility maps so project teams can access the information before work begins. The review also called for barricades and signboards at construction sites.
